Kim Cain

Kim Cain, a multi-disciplinary visual artist, painter and an art teacher from Mississauga, Ontario, was born and raised in Toronto. She studied art at Sheridan College, Toronto, before continuing her art studies at NSCAD where she received her BFA in 1999.

Kim Cain earned her BFA (1999) and B.E.D and Masters of Education degrees from Mt. St. Vincent University where she received a Bachelor of Education (2001) and Masters of Education (2003) degrees from Mt. St. Vincent University.

Cain has worked with the Black Women’s Health Program sponsored by the North End Health Clinic doing graphics for educational pamphlets and acting in live performances as part of the Clinic’s popular education initiatives. She has been an art teacher for the Halifax School Board since 2007. Her work is exhibited regularly in Halifax.

She has been featured in several BANNS group exhibitions as well as exhibitions with Sister Visions- a collective of African Nova Scotian female artists based in Halifax. Her work explores female sexuality, feminist politics and the African Nova Scotian community. She currently works as an art consultant with the Halifax Regional Centre for Education.
